Staying current with trends each season (is like keeping up with iPhones every year right!?) can seem like a daunting task. It doesn’t have to be.

It may be tempting to buy every trend you see from the latest fashion week to social media but not every trend is practical off the runway. Instead of impulse buying, strategically curate clothing to add to your wardrobe. I recommend choosing pieces that are versatile, can be worn as one outfit like a co ord set or separately, so you have more than one outfit to wear. It’s a good time to refresh your essentials, dresses for spring, tank tops in summer, knee-high boots for fall, and sweaters for winter. I also like to find at least one statement piece to complete my outfits.

Keep in mind your lifestyle too. If you’re a mom or dad dressing for comfort is key and will be different than let’s say if you travel for work.

When shopping you can find the best deals online (best for comparison shopping), during holiday sales, and seasonal sales (retailers have seasonal sales to sell off inventory to make room for the upcoming season). There are many online discount tools including Rakuten that offers cash back or Honey that is a browser extension that searches the web for sales.

Draw inspiration from seasonal trends but stay true to your personal style. Most importantly always dress for your body type.

What goes around comes around and this has never been truer when it comes to fashion. In particular, we are seeing this for 2021 trends. Among them making a comeback are 70’s bell bottoms, 80’s embellished vibes, 90’s vintage silk, and 00’s bare midriffs can be seen on the runways.

70’s Retro Returns

That 70’s look returns. Bell bottoms ruled and updated trends are making a resurgence. Combine them with a bralette or T-shirt, vegan leather trench coat and sky-high platform heels. Accessorize with chain jewelry.

80’s Embellished Vibes

The 80’s were about colors and bold statements. Embellished vibes are making a comeback. Standout in a sequin pencil skirt with a high slit, one shoulder tank top and suede boots. Accessorize with large hoop earrings.

90’s Vintage Silk

90’s Silk dresses were a celebration to the Roaring Twenties. The 2021 styles are still as sensual as the negligee dresses of the era. For a fresh take, try one with side cutouts and nude mule heels. Accessorize with a geometric necklace.

00’s Midriff Much

00’s was the decade for midriff baring styles. From cropped halter tops to baby T-Shirts your abs were the center of attention. To pull off a modern look, wear a co-ord skirt set and metallic wedge sandals. Accessorize with a metal fringe necklace.

While the majority of 2020 was spent cooped up indoors and behind our digital screens, fashion was geared towards comfort. Spring/Summer 2021 trends are about renewal. They will elevate your mood. The colors are varied from classics to pastels and the styles are fun, feminine, and fierce. Try these 5 trends to make the transition from stay-at-home back to socializing.

Cinch It

Feel feminine and sexy in a corset top. The sweetheart neckline is flattering and the details from the cutout to the tie around arm enhances its style. Wear it with a midi skirt, wide leg jeans/pants, and strappy heels. Accessorize with metal hardware jewelry.

Standout Shoulders

Make a statement in standout shoulders. A mini dress in solid black with oversized shoulders is edgy chic. Wear it with stretch over-the-knee boots that are like second skin. Accessorize with dangle earrings.

Open Back

This is a sporty look I can get on board with. An open back, crop top in a neutral tone is totally “California Style”. Wear it with white oversized joggers and white sneakers. Accessorize with gold rimmed sunglasses.

Sheer Sensation

A ribbed bodycon dress in bubblegum pink is sweet. The sheer middle with ribbon detail has the sensual effect of a bustier. Wear it with stiletto heels. Accessorize with minimalist jewelry.

Pastel Mules

Classic mules in pastel. The square toe updates the style for the season. The perspex heel gives them an elegant feel. Wear them with a midi dress, mini skirt, or trousers.

Red-Hot Number

Sizzle in a red-hot number. You’ll be sure to turn heads. Choose a silhouette (i.e. A-line, Bodycon, Empire, Sheath etc.) that flatters your body type.  Add a heavy metal collar necklace to set off the look.

Sparkle in Sequin

Who doesn’t love sparkle!?  Why not try a stretch, knit dress with silver metallic sequin? It’s a perfect mix of effortless and glam.  It has plenty of bling so opt for stud earrings, or a delicate necklace to complete the look.

Knitwear and Leather

A sweater and leather pants combo is cozy yet chic. It’s elevated style and comfort. Cold shoulder, cutout, and cardigan sets are the styles to try out now.  Round off the look with a pair of hoop earrings.

Flair for Fringe

An accent of fringe can be found on bags, coats, dresses to jackets alike. Include this trend to add flair to your look.  Wrap a leather belt around to accentuate your waist.

Monochromatic not Dramatic

You can’t go wrong with a monochromatic, long-sleeved sweater dress. Its simplicity in style, is the ideal canvas to play with jewelry.  Try a minimalistic piece to keep the look simple or go for drama with gemstones, pearls or layers.

Makeup is a creative way to have fun with your holiday look. Go BOLD with color, glitz it up with glitter, and get out of your comfort zone.

Fashionistas Rock was created on the foundation that “Fashion is expression, a unique identifier.” I believe everyone has features that are special to them. The beauty of fashion is you can use it to best showcase your attributes.

I’ve loved fashion for as long as I can remember. Since my adolescence, I experimented with trends and adapted them to my personal style. This is how I developed my creativity and love of curating looks. My style has evolved through the years, however a few things that remain consistent with my personal style is my love for shoes, especially stilettos, a statement necklace, and uncommon pieces to complete the look.

When creating your personal style, the key is to make it your own. Think about your features that you love about yourself and use fashion to enhance them. Have fun with putting together your look and add your individual flair.

Search for retailers that sell items that match your style aesthetic as this is the basis for your look, however think outside the box as you can find different pieces in unexpected places you wouldn’t normally shop.

These are the 4 Fall/Winter fashion trends 2020 to rock, rich hues, shaggy shearling, boots, and chains. After a long stint cooped up indoors through the summer months, utilize these trends to complete your look as the weather becomes cooler.

Rich Hues

Fall and winter colors don’t have to be drab. There is an array of shades this season besides blacks, browns, grays to choose from, reds, blues, oranges, yellows, and greens. The hues are richer, bolder versions of spring/summer. The colors are vibrant enough to stand alone for monochromatic but are very mix and matchable too. When combining colors, pick complementary colors like red and blue.

Shaggy Fur

Disco days are gone, but fur is back. This season it’s more sophisticated. Go for longer, luxurious lengths. Opt for a longer coat for a casual look when pairing with jeans and a shorter jacket for an elegant vibe when pairing with a dress.

Bad*ss Boots

Boots are a fall/winter staple. They are versatile with pants, a skirt, and a dress alike. They come in a variety of materials and styles from leather to velvet, slouchy or with embellishments, heeled or flat. Two trends to try out now are combat boots with dresses and pants tucked into a pair.

Chain Links

Chains are in style and can be found on jewelry, shoes, and bags. Oversized is on trend, however if subtle is more your style select a delicate version. Remember…accessories finish a look.
